My girlfriend recommended me to this dental office and boy was I glad I took her advice! Everyone from the front desk, to the dentist who assisted me, were nothing but delightful. My cleaning was painless, yet super thorough! I am currently straightening my teeth with clear aligners and I am finishing up this year. The dentist informed me of all my options, tools and everything needed, in order for me to attain the end result I am looking for. An all around great experience and a breath of fresh air.

Typical Emergencies

Several potential emergencies can happen when it comes to your dental care. What is most important is getting any potential signs of an issue addressed as quickly as possible. Early detection can have several benefits when it comes to restoring your teeth and getting rid of any pain or discomfort. Common emergencies include:

  • Toothache resolution. While a toothache may seem minor at first, or just triggered by cold water or sweets, it is still important to get it examined before it gets worse. Pain or discomfort is usually a sign that there is a significant dental problem under the surface.
  • Gum tenderness. If you notice an increased discomfort or tenderness in your gums, this can be a sign of deeper issues within the gum tissue. To avoid complications, it is beneficial to get this examined as quickly as possible. A proper examination will discover the source of the issue as well as the solution.
  • Necessary extractions. In some instances, there is significant damage and decay to a tooth that would benefit most from removal. These situations typically involve some form of infection that provides an additional risk to your other teeth. Removal will alleviate pain as well as stop the infection from spreading.
  • Emergency dental repair. Teeth are strong, but they can still experience chips and cracks that could lead to further damage in the future if left unattended. Accidents are often the cause of these damages and can be as severe as the tooth becoming broken or completely knocked out.
  • Swelling of the jaw. If you notice your jaw becoming tender and swollen, this is often a sign of infection. This infection focuses on the bone and tissue that supports your teeth. It is important to get this treated quickly to prevent the further spread of infection.
  • Missing or loose fillings. When a filling becomes loose or falls out, it can cause you pain, as well as lead to further decay of the tooth. When this happens, it is important to get the filling replaced as soon as possible. Further decay can lead to more complicated procedures to try to offset the damage.
  • Necessary crown repair. Much like when losing a filling, losing a crown can also cause pain and further damage if not repaired quickly. With a crown, it is exceptionally important to get this examined quickly, ideally within 24-48 hours. Your dentist will be able to assess if they can repair the crown, or if a full replacement will be necessary.

Taking Preventive Measures

Many dental emergencies are preventable. The greatest prevention is committing to a checkup every six months. This provides not only professional dental cleaning but also allows a complete track record of the health of your teeth. By making regular appointments, your dentist will be better equipped to notice any changes in your dental health. Catching changes or concerns early can save you a lot of pain and money in the future.

If you participate in high-risk or high-activity sports, other preventive measures may prove beneficial to you. This includes having a proper mouthguard. This dental guard can protect you from unwanted cracks, breaks, or knock-outs of your teeth due to a blow to your face, jaw, or mouth.
